Background -1: Hopelessness

Iram Ahmed

It is important to share why I am doing this, and even how. If you are bootstrapping like me, maybe we could exchange some lessons along the way.

Until a few months ago, despite achieving the social standards set for a successful and happy life, I was at my lowest point. Days and nights repeated in auto mode and I felt like a spectator of life outside the many windows I was frequently behind - in the car, on the train, at the office and in front of Microsoft.

It didn't help that I felt a growing sense of identity crisis living in a new country. Very few people and places anchored me, but with all of them gone, I felt uprooted, hopeless and homeless. No place made me feel the way Literacy House did.
