Kala Cotton (Gossypium herbaceum) is a rainfed variety indigenous to Kutch, Gujarat. Handspun and handwoven in Shinay Vishal’s studio in Kutch, Gujarat into a textured herringbone of ink and in bleached white: a broken twill whose diagonal shifts with the light down the length of a table.
The pattern reads as a soft, textured blue across a room and reveals its zigzag up close. Finished with an exposed long selvedge on one side, the mark of handloom, and a quarter inch double to balance it on the other. Finished width 22 inches.
Two lengths:
- 78.5 in (200 cm): everyday dining; a 6-seat table with a modest drop.
- 84 in (7 ft): a fuller drop, or a longer table set simply.
